Proverbs 21:31 reminds us that in the work of God, "the horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory belongs to the Lord." In other words, the responsibility of God's people is to prepare well and labour hard in God's work, but victory and success are His!
In an effort to "prepare our horse" well and to clarify the vision we believe the Lord has given us for ministry here in the heart of this great city and beyond, we have been working to develop a clear mission statement along with practical applications for its outworking.
As a vibrant Christian Community in the heart of Edinburgh we are:
We affirm the Bible as God’s perfect word for all humanity and seek to communicate it through clear, relevant, challenging, and uncompromising teaching. (Hebrews 5:12-14, Acts 20:27, 1 Timothy 4:13, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
God calls us to worship Him with all our hearts as a gathered and scattered community and to live for His glory. Worship consists of offering ourselves to God as His servants and our lives as living sacrifices (Psalm 119:10, 1 Peter 1:17, Proverbs 9:10, Romans 12:1-2)
Prayer is the foundation for all we do in dependence on God. Through prayer we praise God, pursue his direction, request resources, and call on the Holy Spirit to empower our (lives and) ministry. (Ephesians 6:18, 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Philippians 4:6-8)
We are devoted to investing in the growth of each disciple of Jesus, and equipping them for service in God’s work. (Matthew 28:20, Ephesians 4:11-15)
We passionately believe that God has called us to bring the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ to men and women, girls and boys in our nation and to all nations, (Acts 1:8, Romans 10:13-14)
We believe that God has called us to compassionately serve one another and our communities in this broken world as an expression of His love and presence. (Luke 10:36-37, John 13:35, Matthew 5:16, Galatians 6:10, James 1:27)
A people of God's possession loving him and serving each other, our community and our neighbours. There are specific areas of focus that we have highlighted as we grow.
We want to see everyone at Carrubbers growing in their faith and love for Jesus, be it child or adult.
The Living Room in Wallyford has been our first church plant out in East Lothian.
Carrubbers sits at the centre of the Royal Mile in the middle of Edinburgh and means we have an awesome opportunity to serve the local community.
We have a huge passion for taking the news of Jesus to people who don't know about him - and that includes people from every tribe, tongue and nation.
Carrubbers has always attracted a large number of students. We recognise how important the student years are to spiritual development and do all that we can to maximise that.
