"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
1 Peter 2:9-10
The reason we are left on this earth when we are saved and not taken straight up to heaven to be with our Father is so that we can share God with others and encourage others on their walk with Him. As soon as we are saved we become citizens of heaven – that will be our permanent home. We are to represent that home to others in the same way that ambassadors represent the country they are from when they are on assignment. What a mind blowing concept!
In my own life I have been hugely impacted by those ambassadors that God sent to share His love with me. I became a Christian in my first year at university after being so struck by the personal relationship that my next door neighbour in halls had with the living God. This was my first experience of living along side a Christian and I was blown away by her example. She and the other Christian students that she introduced me to had such a peace and contentment about them that I was very impacted by and through their ambassador examples I decided to give my life to Christ.
In the book Identity Theft – Lindsey Carlson states that we are all public relations managers – timelessly crafting our own lives into personal ad campaigns to show others the product of ourselves. She asks what does your life proclaim – does it shout “God is my creator, I am the clay, the work of his hand” which is from Isa 64:8. She lays down a very visual challenge to all Christians to “use everything at your disposal to be a gigantic illuminated billboard to God’s glory!”
There are exciting opportunities coming up this summer with There Is Hope to share our faith with others at Carrubbers. We can also be praying that our eyes would be opened by God to the opportunities all around us to show Christ’s love to other and to share our faith with those who ask.
