Normally, the prospective couple will be guided through the course by a mature Christian husband and wife team. The 'mentors' will certainly not have all the answers nor will their own relationship be without flaw. However, if they are walking with Christ and submissive and obedient to His word, they will have much to say with regard to God's guiding and sustaining hand in their own marriage.
A typical scenario will involve the candidate couple meeting initially with the mentors to discuss the course, its objectives and requirements. When all are in agreement, the couple will receive a packet of course materials. The normal schedule involves a two week interval between meetings with one or two sessions of homework due for each meeting. A course outline will be supplied which details all of the course requirements.
Each individual is to complete his or her own material first and then the partners are to come together to discuss the session content as a couple. This is to be done prior to the next meeting with the mentors. The completion of the homework and the discussion time together between the partners is by far the most important and profitable part of the course. The meetings with the mentors are mostly for guidance and accountability purposes. The benefit of the course comes with the personal study and discussion between you and your partner. As you will have undoubtedly heard many times before... You will only get out what you put in.
The course material has recently been revised for those who can only manage the complete the course by correspondence or independently. If this is the case, we would suggest that you endeavour to contact a mature and godly Christian couple who can assist you through the course and provide a measure of accountability for you. You will certainly benefit from their experience, maturity and counsel.
